This week we are following the campervan hire adventures of travel gurus Michelle and Rab as they explore the Highlands and Islands in one of our Medium 2 campervans, the luxurious Hymer Yosemite.When we want to really immerse ourselves in the magnificence of Scotland’s spectacular scenery and vibrant culture, a campervan hire is our favourite way to hit the road. So when we wanted to explore Wester Ross and the Isles of Lewis and Harris, our first stop was Roseisle Luxury Campervans in Edinburgh.

For all of its generous living space, it doesn’t lack maneuverability- not to mention its stylish look and Louise made sure we were comfortable with everything before we took off.
Westward ho for our Scotland adventure
We had reservations for the ferry from Uig, on Skye, to Tarbert, on Harris, for the next evening, so we decided to make it to Skye the first night- that way we could do some exploring before we caught the ferry. We went to Skye last year on our Scotland campervan adventure, but we wanted to check out the Fairy Pools a bit more. By early afternoon we were westward bound in our luxury campervan hire and with every mile we put between the workaday routine and us the more exhilarated we felt!
A Yosemite campervan hire drives like a dream around Scotland’s hills and glens
The Yosemite campervan drives wonderfully. The 2.3 litre engine eats up the miles, hills and glens without breaking sweat- and when you are touring in Scotland, you need that power. It has the turning circle of a Bolshoi ballerina and manoeuvres well in small spaces, so parking is a dream. The gearbox takes a little bit of getting used to, but once you learn how to use it, it’s a piece of cake.
The drive between Edinburgh and the Skye Bridge is breath taking, with many photo ops and places to stop and enjoy the view, including the incredible Eilean Donan Castle, one of Scotland’s most photographed.
Driving over the Skye Bridge as dusk, we had a wild camping spot in mind but decided to top off our fuel first and pulled in to Kyleakin. We found no fuel station here; however, there were plenty of spots for campervans in the parking lot overlooking the bridge for us to spend the night- plus the bonus of two pubs that were emanating the delicious aroma of fried fish and the sounds of live music. It was growing dark, so we decided that maybe the wild blue yonder could wait one more day!
As soon as we walked into the pub, we were greeted warmly and in no time we were devouring freshly landed fish suppers and grooving to the sounds of the band. The joint was jumping and when the singer asked if anyone wanted to join in for a song, Rab nipped out to the campervan to get his mandolin and join in for a couple of rousing sing-alongs as the full moon rose. What a great start to our campervan hire holiday in Scotland, what will tomorrow bring?
