We spent the night at a touring park near Stornoway, with showers and a washroom, however our campervan rental is self-contained so it is easy to get ready for the day without even leaving the campervan. I love all the homely touches of this campervan rental! We did, however, take the chance to power up the habitat battery and empty our wastewater.
Hymercar Yosemite Campervan Hire
This Hymer Yosemite model is nimble and easy to manoeuvre around the Highlands and Islands of Scotland- however it does not compromise on the use of space. We can prepare and entire meal in the kitchen and with the roomy fridge we can stock up for the week. The brilliant team at Roseisle stocked the campervan hire with all the essentials you could possibly need – towels, bedding, pillows, kettle, coffee maker, teapot and pots pans dishes and flatware- even the dish soap is included. Roughing it is a thing of the past in campervan hire from Roseisle!
The ferry to Ullapool is one of the Hebridean bigger ferries that we have travelled on and it was very easy to manoeuvre our campervan rental on board. In addition to a cafe and lounge areas, there is an observation deck where you can look out for dolphins and whales. There was a marine biologist on our ferry who was doing our research and watching for the marine wildlife. We did not see any dolphins or whales but we saw sea eagles, buzzard and numerous other sea birds.
Wester Ross in a campervan hire
The area around Ullapool, called Wester Ross, is surely one of the most breathtaking areas in Scotland, where dramatic seas meet rugged mountains and eagles soar overhead. We spotted a sandy, out of the way beach on the map called Achnahaird, and it looked promising for some really wild camping in our campervan hire. What awaited us was more wonderful than we could have ever imagined!
We reached the beach by driving our campervan hire through the gorgeous Assynt-Coigach National Scenic Area and past iconic Stac Polly, one of the more popular climbing summits in the Highlands of Scotland. As Achnahaird Beach came into view, we were gobsmacked- a wide expanse of sugar sand framed by magnificent geologic formations such as sea stacks and caves- all surrounded by the mountainscape on three sides and gently lapping azure waters on the fourth. Flocks of guillemots and oystercatchers made for lively viewing as we spent the afternoon beachcombing, once again all by ourselves with no buildings or other people anywhere in view. We could get used to this luxury campervan rental lifestyle!
